The Sunday Law Review: 18th to 24th January

Welcome to this weekly column dedicated  to looking at what happened in the business of law, legislative changes, activity in law firms and lawyers in the news within UK as reported by legal publications throughout the previous week.

The implications of Charlie Hebdo continued to fuel this week's debates on increased surveillance powers with the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg insisting that "blanket" data retention is "not very British". Andrew Caplen, the President of The Law Society argued for 'the right for all to be treated equally before the law, the right to a fair trial, the right to hold the government to account and the right not to be arbitrarily arrested, detained or exiled'.

Requests for inclusion within the 'Lawyers, Law Firms, Chambers & ABS in the news this week' section below by law firms and legal professionals should be emailed to features@sundaylawreview.com.
