The Law Business: 16th to 22nd September

Welcome to the year's 37th edition of the weekly 'Law Business' column brought to you by the SundayLawReview team.

This week, many column inches had been written about the face veil. While the actual number of Muslim women wearing the niqab or face veil working in the NHS may be rather low, ministers have asked the General Medical Council to ensure that there is appropriate face-to-face contact with patients. In the recent Crown Court case where a witness had originally refused to reveal her face, Judge Paul Murphy deliberated that the Muslim woman must remove her full-face veil when she gives evidence at her trial but may wear her niqab for the rest of the hearing.

With this and more, as ever, the purpose of this column is to take a serious look at what happened in the business of law within UK as reported by online legal publications throughout last week.

The Law Business: 9th to 15th September

Welcome to the year's 36th edition of the weekly 'Law Business' column brought to you by the SundayLawReview team.

This week, the Ministry of Justice unveiled new protections for libel victims. The proposal include claimants having to pay only their own lawyer's fees even in the event of losing the case. Currently, losing claimants have to pay the winning side's legal fees, which could amount to large sums when the corporate might of media empires are involved. The measure is largely in response to the issues raised by the Leveson Report. With this and more, as ever, the purpose of this column is to take a serious look at what happened in the business of law within UK as reported by online legal publications throughout last week.

The Law Business: 2nd to 8th September

Welcome to the year's 35th edition of the weekly 'Law Business' column brought to you by the SundayLawReview team.

September is a time of renewal in the world of law as the summer malaise is finally kicked out for good. Certificate renewal, new students walking through the corridors of hallowed academia, firms and publications bursting with optimism over what is to come over the next twelve months, it is an exciting time. However, this was also the week when the Justice Secretary Chris Grayling had a change of heart over the Legal Aid Bill, most notably, the scrapping of tendering. A few of the articles below reflect many column inches on this significant event as well as other developments in legislation.

We at SundayLawReview have not stood still either. In response to requests from a number of readers a new section has been added that would be listing interviews and features on lawyers separately from other law firm or legislation related news. This fits in rather well with our own law interview section the SaturdayLawInterview featuring lawyers, legal academics as well as thinkers and activists working in the field of law and justice.

As ever, the purpose of this column is to take a serious look at what happened in the business of law within UK as reported by online legal publications throughout last week.
